Muharram

Muharram is the first month of the Islamic calendar.

It is one of the four sacred months of the year when warfare is forbidden. It is held to be the second holiest month after Ramadan.

For Shia Muslims, Muharram commemorates the death of the Prophet Muhammad's grandson, Hussein Ibn Ali. After questioning the legitimacy of the caliph Yazid, Hussein was murdered during the Battle of Karbala, which took place on the day of Ashura in the year AD 680....

The day of Ashura is observed on the 10th day of Muharram, On this day, the Muslim community, across the globe, commemorates the martyrdom of Imam Hussain, grandson of Prophet Muhammad.

Both Shia and Sunni Muslims celebrate Muharram all across india however, they do not observe the occasion in the same manner.
