Election schedule and Model Code of Conduct :

The election schedule for the 18th Lok Sabha was announced by the Election Commission of India on 16 March 2024, and with it the Model Code of Conduct came into effect. 


What is Model code of conduct (MCC)?


About MCC :

  • The MCC is a set of guidelines issued by the ECI to regulate political parties and candidates prior to elections.
  • It helps EC in keeping with the mandate it has been given under Article 324 of the Constitution, which gives it the power to supervise and conduct free and fairelections to the Parliament and State Legislatures.
  • The MCC is operational from the date on which the election schedule is announced until the date of the result announcement.


Various political parties manifesto :

Indian National congress (congress) :



The manifesto, titled ‘Nyay Patra’ was released in the presence of Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and senior leaders Sonia GandhiRahul Gandhi, KC Venugopal and P Chidambaram. 

It focused on five “pillars of justice” (Yuva Nyay, Naari Nyay, Kisaan Nyay, Shramik Nyay and Hissedari Nyay) with 25 guarantees under them. Right to apprenticeship, a legal guarantee for MSP, and passing a constitutional amendment to raise the 50 per cent cap on reservations for SCs, STs and OBCs are among the promises made by the Congress in its manifesto for the Lok Sabha polls.


Here are some of the key promises made in the manifesto:

  • A nationwide socio-economic and caste census
  • A constitutional amendment to raise 50 per cent cap on reservations for SC, ST and OBC communities
  • Ten per cent quota in jobs, educational institutions for EWS will be implemented for all castes, communities
  • Passing the ‘Right to Apprenticeship Act’ to provide one-year apprenticeship to every diploma holder or graduate below age of 25.
  • Legal guarantee to Minimum Support Prices (MSP)
  • Immediately restore Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood
  • Scrapping the the Agnipath Scheme
  • The Rajasthan model of cashless insurance of up to Rs 25 lakh will be adopted for universal healthcare
  • National minimum wage will be Rs 400 per day
  • Launch of the Mahalakshmi scheme to provide Rs 1 lakh per year to every poor Indian family.
  • Scrapping contractualisation of regular jobs in govt, PSUs and ensure regularisation of such appointments.
  • Filling nearly 30 lakh vacancies in sanctioned posts at various levels in the central government.

Bhartiya janta party (BJP)


BJP released its manifesto for the Lok Sabha elections on 14 April 2024. The party has named its manifesto as Sankalp Patra. Before releasing its manifesto, the party mentioned about Jan Dhan account, Ujjwala scheme, construction of toilets, abolition of Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir, construction of Ram temple, abolition of triple talaq. Along with this, it was said that the Women’s Reservation Act and Nar Shakti Vandan Act should be passed.



Special points of  BJP Manifesto 2024

  • Guarantee of service, good governance and poor welfare in the coming five years
  • Free ration, water and gas connection and zero electricity bill from PM Suryaghar for the next five years.
  • Ayushman Bharat will continue to provide free treatment up to Rs 5 lakh.
  • Permanent houses for middle class families, expansion of health services
  • National Education Policy will be implemented, every citizen will get high quality education.
  • Will host the Olympics in 2036
  • There will be lakhs of employment opportunities for the youth through infrastructure, investment, manufacturing, high value services, startups and tourism and sports.
  • Under Nari Tu Narayani, further 3 crore lakhpati didis will be created.
  • Will provide new opportunities by connecting women self-help groups with the service sector.
  • Will pay special attention to cervical cancer, breast cancer and osteoporosis in women.
  • Toilets will be built for women in public places.
  • Will implement Nari Vandan Act.
  • Will try to increase the income of farmers from seed to market.
  • Will establish ShriAnn towards super food.
  • Will protect the land through nano urea and natural farming.
  • Will develop agricultural infrastructure.
  • Boat insurance for fishermen, fish processing units, timely information through satellite will strengthen all these.
  • Will encourage fish farmers to cultivate sea-weed and pearls.
  • Gig workers, migrant workers, taxi drivers, truck drivers, auto drivers, porters and domestic workers will get the benefits of welfare schemes by linking on e-Shram.
  • Modern facilities will be built for truck drivers on the highway.
  • India will give official certification of Yoga.
  • Will take India’s culture to the world through Thiruvalluvar Cultural Centre.
  • Arrangements will be made for the study of classical languages ​​of India in higher educational institutions.
  • Will declare 2025 as the Year of Tribal Pride.
  • Eklavya School, PM Janman will promote value addition and eco-tourism in forest products.
  • Will give respect to OBC, SC, ST communities in every sphere of life.
  • Guarantee of making India a global manufacturing hub.
  • Work will be done on mission mode for urban housing, transportation, water management, clean air, garbage disposal and clean water.
  • Ramayan festival will be celebrated all over the world. Ayodhya will develop.
  • Will expand 5G network technology, work on 6G
  • There will be more strict action against corruption.
  • The mantra of Perform, Reform, Transform will be applicable in every area of ​​governance.
  • Indian Judicial Code will apply.
  • Along with One Nation, One Election, there will be a system of common electoral role.
  • Vishwakarma for a prosperous India – Guaranteed to provide skill training, credit to MSMEs and small traders and link their production to the market.
  • Guaranteed to make India the third largest economic power in the world.
  • New tracks will be added to the railway. New Vande Bharat, Amrit Bharat and Namo Bharat trains will arrive.
  • World class stations will be built, the problem of waiting list will end in the coming years.
  • Construction of new airport highway, metro, underwater metro will continue.
  • Feasibility study of bullet train corridor will start in North, South Eastern India.
  • The development journey will continue in the North-East. Preparation of master plan according to the special needs of every coastal, island and hilly area.
  • India will become a leader in space, artificial intelligence, quantum, semiconductor, green hydrogen, electric vehicle technology.
  • Will achieve self-sufficiency in the energy sector by 2047. Will reduce petrol import.


Lok Sabha Elections Phase 1, 19 April 2024 Key Highlights:


  • Elections 2024 Phase 1 Voting: Nearly 64% voter turnout was recorded across the states.
  • The first phase of voting for the 18th Lok Sabha elections were held in 102 constituencies spread in 21 states and Union territories on April 19.
  • Nearly 64% voter turnout was recorded pm across the states. 
  • Seats in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Jammu and Kashmir, Lakshadweep and Puducherry go to polls today.
  • More than 16.63 crore voters, which include over eight crore men and women each, will cast their vote at nearly 2 lakh polling stations.


State wise voter turnout of first phase:

  • Tripura saw highest estimated voter turnout of 79.83% 
  • West Bengal (77.57%), 
  • Puducherry (72.84%), 
  • Assam (70.77%), 
  • Meghalaya (69.91%), 
  • Manipur (68.62%), 
  • Sikkim (68.06%), and 
  • J&K (65.08%). 
  • Rajasthan at 50.27%.
  • Uttarakhand at 53.56% 
  • Mizoram at 53.96%
  • Maharashtra at 54.85%. 
  • Bihar recorded lowest estimated turnout at 46.32%, 
Lok Sabha Elections Phase 2, 26 April 2024 Key Highlights:

  • Till 5 pm, Tripura continued to lead the voter turnout (77.53%) charts, while Uttar Pradesh has registered the lowest turnout with 52.74 per cent, according to the data released by the Election Commission of India
  • As many as 15.88 crore voters are eligible to vote in this phase. 
  • The voters include 8.08 crore men, 7.8 crore women and 5,929 third-gender electors. 
  • The voters also include 3.28 crore young voters in the age group 20-29 years. This includes 34.8 lakh first-time voters registered to cast their votes in this phase.
  • The seats going to polls on April 26 include all 20 Lok Sabha constituencies in Kerala, 14 in Karnataka, 13 in Rajasthan, eight each in Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra, seven in Madhya Pradesh, five each in Assam and Bihar, three each in West Bengal and Chhattisgarh and one each in Jammu and Kashmir, Manipur and Tripura.
  • Over 16 lakh polling officials have been deployed across 1.67 lakh polling stations in this phase.

State wise voter turnout of second phase :

  • Tripura saw the highest estimated voter turnout of 77.94% 
  • Manipur (76.46%), 
  • Chhattisgarh (72.51%), 
  • West Bengal (71.84%), 
  • Assam (70.68%), 
  • J&K (67.22%)
  • Kerala (64.99%). 
  • Karnataka -  64.47% 
  • Rajasthan - 59.69%, 
  • MP - 55.19%, 
  • Maharashtra - 53.71%
  • Bihar - 53.60%. 
  • The lowest estimated turnout was seen in UP (53.02%). 


Lok Sabha Elections Phase three, 7 may 2024  Highlights: 


  • Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat recorded nearly 55% voter turnout in Phase 3 voting. Meanwhile, Assam recorded the highest turnout at 75%.
  • The polling was held in 93 Lok Sabha constituencies across 11 states and Union Territories in the third phase of Lok Sabha Elections 2024 today. 
  • As many as 1,331 candidates are in the fray in the Phase 3 polls.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah were among the first voters on Tuesday.
  • Fate of over 283 Lok Sabha seats would be sealed after the third phase is over today. 
  • This means elections to more than half of the 543 Lok Sabha seats will be over in the first three phases.
  • Voting began at 7 am and ends at 6 pm. 
  • About 39.92 % voter turnout was recorded across 93 seats until 1 pm, according to the poll panel in the Phase 3 of polling on Tuesday. 
  • With 14 seats voting in this phase, voting for all 28 seats of Karnataka will also be over today. 
  • With seven seats voting today, the Lok Sabha Election for 11 seats of Chhattisgarh will also be over. 
  • Among the other seats third phase are 4 in Assam, 5 in Bihar, 7 in Chhattisgarh, 9 in Madhya Pradesh, 11 in Maharashtra, 10 in Uttar Pradesh and four in West Bengal. 
  • Among the key candidates whose fate will be sealed today include Union Home Minister Amit Shah who is contesting from Gandhinagar (Gujarat),  Shivraj Singh Chouhan from Vidisha (MP), Jyotiraditya Scindia from Guna (MP) and Dimple Yadav from Mainpuri (UP), Union Ministers Mansukh Mandaviya (Porbandar), Parshottam Rupala (Rajkot) and Pralhad Joshi (Dharwad) are also in the fray in this phase of polling.
  • As many as 17.24 crore voters are eligible to vote in the third phase.
  • Around 18.5 lakh Polling officials have been deployed across 1.85 lakh polling stations, the poll panel said. 
  • There are over 14.04 lakh registered 85+ year-old voters. 
  • Another 39,599 voters are above 100 years of age in phase 3 polling.
  • Overall, voting for 543 Lok Sabha seats will be held in seven phases. 
  • The remaining phases will be held on May 13, May 20, May 25 and June 1.
  • The counting of votes for all seven phases of Lok Sabha Elections will take place on June 4.


State wise voter turnout of third phase :

  • Assam saw the highest estimated voter turnout of 74.86% in Lok Sabha polls' third phase. 
  • followed by West Bengal 73.93%, 
  • Goa 72.52%, 
  • Chhattisgarh 66.87%, 
  • Karnataka 66.05%, 
  • Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman
  • Diu 65.23%, 
  • Madhya Pradesh 62.28%, 
  • Bihar 56.01%, 
  • Gujarat 55.22%, 
  • UP 55.13% 
  • Maharashtra 53.40%. 
  • Voting was held in 92 Lok Sabha seats.

Lok Sabha Elections Phase four , 13 may 2024  Highlights: 

  • West Bengal saw the highest estimated voter turnout of 75.66% in the fourth phase of the Lok Sabha elections. 
  • This was followed by Andhra Pradesh 68.04%, 
  • Madhya Pradesh 68.01%, 
  • Jharkhand 63.14%, 
  • Odisha 62.96%, 
  • Telangana 61.16%, 
  • Uttar Pradesh 56.35%, 
  • Bihar 54.14% and 
  • Maharashtra 52.49%. 
  • Jammu and Kashmir saw the lowest voter turnout in this phase at 35.75%.


Lok Sabha Elections Phase five , 21 may 2024  Highlights: 

  • West Bengal saw the highest estimated voter turnout of 73% in the fifth phase of the Lok Sabha elections
  • Ladakh -  67.15% 
  • Jharkhand - 61.90%, 
  • Odisha - 60.55%, 
  • Uttar Pradesh - 55.80%, 
  • Jammu and Kashmir - 54.21% 
  • Bihar - 52.35%. 
  • Maharashtra recorded the lowest voter turnout at 48.66%.


Lok Sabha Elections Phase six, 25 may 2024  Highlights: 

  • West Bengal saw the highest estimated voter turnout of 77.99% in the sixth phase of Lok Sabha polls.
  • followed by Jharkhand (61.41%), 
  • Odisha (59.60%), 
  • Haryana (55.93%)
  • NCT of Delhi (53.73%). 
  • Bihar (52.24%)
  • Uttar Pradesh (52.02%)
  • The lowest estimated turnout was seen in J&k (51.35%).


Lok Sabha Elections Phase seven, 01 June 2024  Highlights: 

  • West Bengal saw the highest estimated voter turnout of 69.89% in the final phase of Lok Sabha polls.
  • followed by Jharkhand (67.95%), 
  • Himachal Pradesh (66.56%), 
  • Chandigarh (62.80%)
  • Odisha (62.46%)
  • Punjab  55.20% 
  • Uttar Pradesh-  (54%)
  • The lowest estimated turnout was seen in Bihar (48.86%).
